Apple appoints Indian-origin veteran Sabih Khan as Chief Operating Officer, succeeding Jeff Williams after three decades at the tech giant.

Sabih Khan, a seasoned Apple veteran of three decades, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO), the company announced on Tuesday. He succeeds Jeff Williams in what Apple calls a “long-planned transition.”

Khan currently serves as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations, where he leads the company’s global supply chain, sustainability programs, and operations teams. He will officially assume his new role later this month.

Born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Khan spent his early school years in Singapore before relocating to the United States. He holds degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, and a master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Joining Apple in 1995 after working at GE Plastics, Khan quickly rose through the ranks, contributing significantly to Apple’s product delivery and operational strategies. His leadership has played a crucial role in the success of flagship Apple products over the years.

Jeff Williams will remain at Apple until later this year, continuing to lead the design team and the Apple Watch division. After his retirement, Apple’s design team will report directly to CEO Tim Cook.
