The marriage marks a historic first: Albanese is the **first serving Australian Prime Minister to wed while in office** in the 124-year history of the country's federal government. The couple had been engaged since Albanese proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024.

Ceremony Details and Guests

The private ceremony was attended by about **60 guests**, including family, close friends, and several cabinet ministers. Notable attendees included Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe.

An official statement released after the vows expressed the couple's delight: “We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends.” Pictures from the event show Albanese and Haydon signing the marriage certificate with celebrant Bree, and the couple’s dog and ring-bearer, Toto, being walked by flower girl Ella.

The couple plans to take a private honeymoon within Australia from Monday until Friday next week, with all costs for the trip being paid privately by Albanese and Haydon.
