Boston, November 29, 2025: Researchers from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) have released a new analysis quantifying the economic impact of current-generation Artificial Intelligence on the United States workforce. Using a tool called the "Iceberg Index," the study concluded that existing AI systems are already capable of replacing tasks equivalent to the work of **11.7% of the US workforce**, translating to roughly **$1.2 trillion in current wages**.
The report highlights that the "exposure" is highest in sectors like human resources, financial analysis, and administrative support, which rely heavily on routine, data-driven functions. The findings reinforce the need for accelerated government and industry focus on workforce retraining and skills transition programs.
